This five-book series will teach you the fundamental elements “the
rudiments“ for playing the guitar. The Book 1 begins with teaching the absolute beginner, and continually progresses, book by book, for
those who want to develop a symmetrical system for playing melody, chords, scales, and
improvising on the guitar – by learning a song in one key and being capable of
transposing it to any other key.
Over the many years of playing and teaching the guitar, I have met many great
musicians, each having their own favorite choice of music, including Jazz,
Country, Pop, Rock, Blues, Classical and other styles. Some were self-taught,
learning what they could by listening and trying to copy recordings of their
favorite artist. Others were highly educated, first taking private lessons
starting at an early age, then going on to study music theory at a university.
Every guitarist has a system of playing the guitar. Some of the guitar pickers I
have met could not even name the notes or chords they were playing. They learned
to transform their favorite songs and “hot-licks“ to the guitar “by ear“ by
using their own unique, sometimes a very slow process. Others could play a song
on the guitar instantly by sight-reading the music manuscript. Then, quickly
analyze and explain the “ins and outs“ of any chord progression, the melody, and
ad-libs of any recording. They used their knowledge of music theory to apply the
musical notes to the guitar immediately through a uniform system of playing
scales and chord positions.
Everything you need to know to play the guitar using a uniform
symmetrical system is explained in this book series. No previous knowledge of music or
the guitar is required for you to start playing immediately. How quickly you
learn depends entirely on how much you practice.
This book series comes with CDs containing the Pickin’ Pal MIDI Player software for PC computers,
along with many exercises and songs in the MIDI format. These exercises and songs have a “metronome-like“ MIDI Combo consisting
of guitar, bass, drums, and other instruments especially designed for you to
practice with – helping you to learn the technique, lesson material and songs
much faster. It’s a lot more fun to play
guitar with your own band!
In order to play the MIDI files using the Pickin’ Pal MIDI Player, your computer
must have the Windows® operating system, a “MIDI compatible“ sound card and
speakers. It is highly recommended that you have a quality speaker system with a
subwoofer. The tweeters will bring out the highs while the subwoofer will bring
out the bass that make listening and playing along with the exercises and songs
more enjoyable.
The lesson material in this book series, along with the Pickin’ Pal MIDI Player, is
designed to teach you the necessary fundamentals, while developing your
technique, for playing the guitar. It is my sincere desire that this book series will
help create a great deal of pleasure for you, whether playing the guitar
professionally or for your own enjoyment.
